The authorities introduced new legislation in March 2001 as regards the driving
of quadricycles. A person who has passed the the full motorcycle test before 01 March 2001 has automatic entitlement to drive a quadricycle, however, any person taking a full motorcycle test
after this date is not entitled to drive an Aixam on a motorcycle licence.
§ What is the maximum speed of the cars?
The maximum speed of the Aixam 400 is 50 m.p.h, the Aixam 500 has a maximum speed of 55 m.p.h and
for the Mac500 it is 60 m.p.h.
§ What is the insurance grouping?
Aixam is the only quadricycle manufacturer to have been referenced by the Association of British Insurers
and to have satisfied their very severe technical and safety standards. As a result of this the Aixam 500 has been classed as an insurance Group 3.
§ What is the road tax?
The road tax system in the UK is based on the number of wheels on the vehicle. The road tax for an Aixam
quadricycle is therefore £110 as it falls within the light car category.
§ Can I buy an Aixam vehicle cheaper directly from France?
No, Aixam is perhaps the only manufacturer that has a Pan European pricing
policy. Any price difference would be due to transport and storage costs in the UK.
